It's a Process . . .

June 13, 2015.  Challenge accepted. To create a decorative case for a 6" x 12" feather pillow and gift it to my sister before the end of the month.  It's now June 23rd and this is my progress.

First of all, it took some time to find the perfect embroidery pattern.  Found one.  Pinterest, I Love You.  Printed it.

It wasn't as easy as I thought it was going to be getting the image onto the fabric.  I first tried that chalky transfer paper that you can trace over the top of  an image onto your working fabric.  That did not work.  The chalk just rubbed right off.  I also tried regular graphite transfer paper and that did not work.  I did some research and found these cool looking transfer pens, but did not want to wait to have them delivered so off I went to my local Joann and picked up what would work (see above).

Using my Cars light box I traced the image on the wrong side of the printout using Aunt Martha's Transfer Pencil and ironed it on to my fabric.  It worked fairly well.  I seems a little muddy, but hopefully the stitches will cover it all up.

I made a color guide (using the gel pens you got me).

Here is the start of the sewn design.  I've been referencing Doodle-Stitching by Aimee Ray for stitch variations.  So far I've used only the Back Stitch.  So far, so fun!
Hopefully, before the end of July you'll have a cute little pillow to remind you of me and our time in Cambridge.
